Recipe: Baked Kale Chips

kale.jpg

My sister wanted to experiment on baking kale chips for the first time and wanted to share with me her tips to share with y’all since she doesn’t have a blog (heh). It’s actually pretty easy and fast, and very versatile when you want to pick your ingredients for seasoning your chips! My sister loves A1 steak sauce, so she wanted to try it out (but a piece of advice.. don’t do it LOL, it’s not the best complement for kale).

Most recipes only call for three things: kale, olive oil, and salt… and pepper, if you want to be daring ;).

Ingredients we used:

  • kale
  • olive oil
  • red chili pepper powder
  • salt
  • garlic pepper powder
  • (A1 steak sauce lol)
  1. Preheat at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Chop the kale into small chip-sized pieces; you can put the stalks to the side since they won’t really bake in the oven and dry in the 10-minute baking time.
  3. Wash and strain the kale pieces and try to shake as much water from the leaves as possible.
  4. Lay your leaves out on your trays (we used pizza trays to maximize the surface area since we wanted to try out four different flavors:
    – (original) olive oil and salt
    – olive oil, salt, and garlic pepper powder
    – olive oil, salt, and red chili pepper powder (I highly recommend this combo!!) 🙂
    – olive oil, salt, and A1 steak sauce (I don’t recommend this combo!)
  5. Place your trays into the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Don’t bake it any longer than 10 minutes since we did it for a minute longer for the first set and they ended up having a semi-burnt aftertaste haha.

The front tray shows the first (the original flavor with just oil and salt) and third variation of our kale chips with the red chili pepper powder 🙂
  6. To store, saran wrap your bowls to keep the moisture out!

Let me know in the comments below what veggies and fruits you have baked in your home! I’d love to have more ideas of what to try next 🙂
